03 – Dark Faith: The Occult Use of the Wave-function

Chapter 3 of  The Conceptual God – Presenting a Robust Case for Divine Conceptualism and Structural Realism.

In the last chapter I wrote about how God gives faith that allows us to programmatically change how the wave-function is parsed. In this chapter I am writing about what I call dark faith – the use of the occult to hack the wave-function. I wrote about the circle of faith.

The Bible doesn’t systematically lay out anything remotely resembling the circle of faith where the occult is concerned – and for good reason. The Bible condemns everything occult. The last thing that we should expect to find in the Scripture is a primer for doing the occult.

This does not mean Scripture does not address this issue. In chapter 1 I show that the universe is fundamentally an interactive information system. All interactive information systems are hackable – they are by the very nature of being open systems. Open system are designed to be used in specific ways, but the very nature of access involves vulnerability to misuse. We see this readily in the various man-made computer systems, but can God’s programming be hacked?

God’s information systems are much more robust than human systems, but once He made those systems accessible to humans, then vulnerabilities came into existence that could be exploited. It is these vulnerabilities that allow for occult hacking of the wave-function.

Genesis addresses this in two places: In the passage relating to the Tree of Life and The Tower of Babel.

In the passage relating to the Tree of Life, we see the word knowledge. This world does not refer to the mere acquisition of in formation but of intimate entanglement. The Hebrew word for knowledge here is da’ath, which is used for skills in accessing good and evil. At first glance it does not seem like a big deal to know good and evil, but the deal is much. Much bigger than a glance reading of this text reveals. Why would humanity die? Is God being arbitrary here or is there more?

Gen 2:16-17  And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat;  (17)  but of the tree of theknowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

As we go to thorough the narrative we encounter the temptation in the Garden. Satan tells Eve that you will be like God, knowing good and evil. The Hebrew word for know here is yâda‛, which is used to denote intimate knowledge. The word ‘ yâda‛ ’ is used in Gen 4:1 to describe Adam’s sexual intimacy with Eve.

Gen 3:1-5  Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”  (2)  And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden;  (3)  but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ”  (4)  Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.  (5)  For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God,knowing good and evil.”

God uses the same word in Gen 3:22-24 to describe man’s knowledge of good and evil. God also saw this knowledge as intimacy.

Gen 3:22-24  Then the LORD God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us,to know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”—  (23)  therefore the LORD God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken.  (24)  So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.

What’s happening here. Did man truly not know good and evil before. Man wasn’t ignorant about what is good and what is evil prior to this. God gave clear revelation to Adam and Eve in special revelation. Adam had sufficient general revelation to deduce the ethical use of things from their function – enough to name the animals and know none of them would make a suitable mate. Knowledge of Good and Evil was more then mere cognition of ethical principles.

The common thread in knowledge of general revelation and knowledge of special revelation of God is that both result in parsing the wave-function in ways mediated by the commands and instructions in God’s word. Knowledge of Good and Evil in Genesis 3 refer to direct intimate entanglement with Good and Evil that bypasses God’s Word – in other words, its hacking the wave function.

In today’s parlance we would refer to the type of knowledge described in Genesis 3 as quantum entanglement. The normal way that people interact with the wave function is mediated by general revelation of God’s word in creation, and the Word of Faith as God’s special revelation that allows extraordinary uses of the wave-function under God’s command. The knowledge of good and evil is direct intimate encounter with good and evil where good and evil are used in the context of ethically classifying decisions. The knowledge of Good and Evil is immediate intimacy with good and evil in ways that affect the decision to conduct a measurement on the wave- function rather than mediated measurement under God’s Word. The Knowledge of Good and Evil here is hacking the wave-function, and all such hacking is part of the occult.

Up to the point of occult revelation of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, all measurements were directed by God’s Word. Prior to the fall, everything was consistent with God’s Word – there was real freedom exercised in harmony with God’s Word. The occult began the moment the first created free will agent thought to contradict God. Lucifer decided he wanted to ascend to the throne of the Most High God. In Isaiah 14, in the middle of the proverb against Babylon, Lucifer is mentioned

Isa 14:12-14  “How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations! (13)  For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north;  (14)  I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.

In the passage relating to the Tower of Babel, we see that unity has quantum mechanical significance. The Tower of Babel was a Ziggurat intended as a temple of religious worship that purportedly would reach to Heaven. Whether they literally thought it could reach to Heaven or was hyperbolically saying that is of trivial importance here1. The point is that they believed that focusing worship here would help them access divine and cosmic powers beyond the normal functionality of nature.

Gen 11 gives us the account of the Tower of Babel. It was a ziggurat designed as a place of religious worship. The tower of Babel was putatively designed to reach heaven. Whether this was intended literal or allegorical makes no difference in the lesson here. The tower was designed to enable people to access cosmic and divine realities.

Gen 11:3-7  Then they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar.  (4)  And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”  (5)  But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built….

God saw what they were doing and their intents. He knew they were building a tower intended to access divine and cosmic powers beyond the normal functioning of nature. In quantum mechanical parlance, they were building a Tower that would alter how they conducted a measure on the wave-function to yield something more than the normal manifestation of the wave-function. What does the Lord say?

The answer from the Lord seemingly confirms that unified worship of an object intended to access cosmic powers might actually succeed. The reply from the lord suggests that unity of purpose and language are sufficient grounds for this to work. In quantum mechanical parlance, having a unified focus on an object referencing the wave-function with a unified description of it’s properties and methods can alter how a measurement is conducted on the wave-function. The text reads this way ”…Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; nownothingthat they propose to do will be withheld from them.

Gen 11:3-7…(6)  And the LORD said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.  (7)  Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.”

From an information systems perspective, unity via standardized protocols for exchanging information is essential for communication across networks. In simpler architectures, the rules of the protocol are rigidly defined. In more advanced systems there exist means to rewrite those rules to allow an information system to evolve. We have AI systems that can do that. The information system (rhema word) that defines the functionality of the wave-function would at least allow such as it is far more advanced than human computer systems. In all information systems capable of such evolution there must be agreement across nodes or players to allow the exchange of information necessary to rewrite the rules. Both the Garden of Eden and the Tower of Babel would have supplied those conditions.

We see three features in the hacking of the wave-function that bypasses God’s Word.

  1. Quantum entanglement with Satan. It is Satan that introduces occult entanglement to the human race. Humanity becomes entangled with Satan, giving him power he otherwise would not have had. Hacked cosmic powers are under Satan’s control. This should not be a surprise as angels would be expected to have more wisdom and power than newly created humans.
  2. Consensus and Phenomenological global unity around language and signage. Genesis mentions the world being of one language. Occult hacking, like all other attempts to exchange information on an information system, requires a shared protocol or language for enable communication. Given that hacking is not seeking God’s intent but creating intentional apart from God, occult hacking must transfer the power and glory from God to the words and signage. Critical to the occult is what I call the magickal theory of language. Instead of seeing language as a carrier of content agreed upon conventionally the signage and forms of the symbols themselves have the power. It is this faith around the symbolism. This faith around a particular symbolism morphed into faith in symbolism itself in the realm of using language as incantation rather than reasoning or communicating. Consensus around faith in incantation is an occult use of language to hack the wave function.
  3. The belief that the divine rests in special places and people rather than the personage of God, and that accessing such places triggers cosmic powers. Centering both quantum entanglement with Satan and the global consensus on this at Babel opened doors for a stream of occult action throughout the ages, even in things seemingly unrelated. For example Gardnerian Wicca has little in common with ancient Wicca, but it affirms both the ancient Hermetic worldview and identifies itself in the stream of the occult, acquiring a relationship through quantum entanglement that it would not otherwise enjoy. The entire “identify as” movement is witchcraft, as it bypasses both God and objective reality and create its own reality by affirming the label as having power on its own and setting it apart as a sacred space
  4. We see in the Scripture that real occult power exists. We see this In Exodus 11, Acts 8:9-24, 2 Th 2:9, and Rev 13:1-15.

Exodus 7:11-32 that the Pharaoh’s magicians could do supernatural feats. They could duplicate the first three plagues, though not with quite the same power as God. Pharaoh therefore refused to take the Lord seriously.

Exo 7:11-22  But Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers; so the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments.  (12)  For every man threw down his rod, and they became serpents. But Aaron’s rod swallowed up their rods…  …(20)  And Moses and Aaron did so, just as the LORD commanded. So he lifted up the rod and struck the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants. And all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood…  …(22)  Then the magicians of Egypt did so with their enchantments; …and Pharaoh’s heart grew hard, and he did not heed them, as the LORD had said.

The Egyptian magicians were able to duplicate only up to a point. They could alter the parsing of the wave-function to alter the normal operations of the natural realm, but could not create life from non-life or do anything that would violate the second Law of thermodynamics. Here Moses created life from non-life by transforming dust into lice.

Exo 8:16-19  So the LORD said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Stretch out your rod, and strike the dust of the land, so that it may become lice throughout all the land of Egypt.’ ”  (17)  And they did so. For Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod and struck the dust of the earth, and it became lice on man and beast. All the dust of the land became lice throughout all the land of Egypt.  (18)  Now the magicians so worked with their enchantments to bring forth lice, but they could not. So there were lice on man and beast.  (19)Then the magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is the finger of God.”But Pharaoh’s heart grew hard, and he did not heed them, just as the LORD had said.

In 1 Sam 28:7-19is the account of Saul and the Medium of En Dor. This one is the most unusual of all of the accounts of occult power in Scripture. The standard Judaeo-Christian explanation of the occult is that it is Satanic power, and that’s not wrong since all occult is ultimately tied to Satan due to Adam’s quantum entanglement with Satan in the Garden.

This entanglement is but the initial layer of the occult. Satan’s entanglement was about hacking the wave-function, which can be programmatic-ally modified at one of two endpoints. God’s Word governs one and cannot be hacked. The other is targeted human consensus at a specific part of the wave function. The occult was born at the Tower of Babel and involved hacking the wave-function. The account of the Medium of En Dor involved full hacking of the wave-function, causing events Satan could not produce. While the Medium operated in satanic power, she accessed realities Satan could not produce, namely Samuel coming up in both his person and the prophetic anointing he has with God. Samuel’s last prophecy was given personally postmortem after his death.

1 Sa 28:7-19  Then Saul said to his servants, “Find me a woman who is a medium, that I may go to her and inquire of her.” And his servants said to him, “In fact, there is a woman who is a medium at En Dor.”  (8)  So Saul disguised himself and put on other clothes, and he went, and two men with him; and they came to the woman by night. And he said, “Please conduct a sÍance for me, and bring up for me the one I shall name to you.”  (9)  Then the woman said to him, “Look, you know what Saul has done, how he has cut off the mediums and the spiritists from the land. Why then do you lay a snare for my life, to cause me to die?…”

Saul persuades the woman to do the seance to bring Samuel up:

1 Sa 28:7-19 …(10)  And Saul swore to her by the LORD, saying, “As the LORD lives, no punishment shall come upon you for this thing.”  (11)  Then the woman said, “Whom shall I bring up for you?” And he said, “Bring up Samuel for me.”  (12)  When the woman saw Samuel, she cried out with a loud voice. And the woman spoke to Saul, saying, “Why have you deceived me? For you are Saul!”  (13)  And the king said to her, “Do not be afraid. What did you see?” And the woman said to Saul, “I saw a spirit ascending out of the earth.”  (14)  So he said to her, “What is his form?” And she said, “An old man is coming up, and he is covered with a mantle.” And Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he stooped with his face to the ground and bowed down…

Here Samuel comes up. While the standard Judaeo-Christian explanation for the occult is normative (and there is no such thing as the occult without Satan), in this unusual case it is actually the person Samuel that is brought up rather than a familiar spirit. We know this because Samuel does things that a familiar spirit would not – could not – do.

1 Sa 28:7-19  …(15)  Now Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?” And Saul answered, “I am deeply distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God has departed from me and does not answer me anymore, neither by prophets nor by dreams. Therefore I have called you, that you may reveal to me what I should do…”

Saul could no longer hear from God because of his sin in not executing the Amalekites. In thinking about what these people were, they were close analogous to actual modern day Nazis. Saul lost his kingdom over this. Samuel’s judgment for that failure included the indictment “For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He also has rejected you from being king (1 Sa 15:23).” The way of occult is to access cosmic and divine powers in ways that bypass God, and, as such, is rebellion against God. Saul completes his rebellion to resorting to the occult to force God to answer.

It is against this backdrop that Samuel answers. Samuel brings one last word from the Lord to Saul. It is the time for Saul’s judgment to come. The occult is rebellion against God whether the power directly comes from Satan or whether it hacks power from the wave-function that obtain other actions from God or man.

1 Sa 28:7-19  …(16)  Then Samuel said: “So why do you ask me, seeing the LORD has departed from you and has become your enemy?  (17)  And the LORD has done for Himself as He spoke by me. For the LORD has torn the kingdom out of your hand and given it to your neighbor, David.  (18)  Because you did not obey the voice of the LORD nor execute His fierce wrath upon Amalek, therefore the LORD has done this thing to you this day.  (19)  Moreover the LORD will also deliver Israel with you into the hand of the Philistines. And tomorrow you and your sons will be with me. The LORD will also deliver the army of Israel into the hand of the Philistines.”

Mat 24:24 tells us that many false Christs and False prophets would come in the end times and performs great signs and miracles so persuasive that it would even deceive the elect if that were possible. Such deception would not be possible without the ability to exercise real occult power. This verse also gives us assurance that God has our backs. Greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world, as this verse affirms the impossibility of deceiving the elect.

Mat 24:24  For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.

Acts 8:9-24 is the account of Simon Magus, a key player in ancient Gnosticism and precursor to Marcion. He had a reputation as “the great power of God”

Act 8:9-11  But there was a certain man called Simon, who previously practicedsorcery in the city and astonished the people of Samaria, claiming that he was someone great,  (10)  to whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, “This man is the great power of God.”  (11)  And they heeded him because he had astonished them with his sorceriesfor a long time.

Simon exercised real occult power. The text shows that his motivation was indeed rebellion against God. When Peter came preaching the gospel, it was with superior power than what Simon wielded. Simon “believed” and then proceeded to attempt to hack the Holy Spirit because he thought the Holy Spirit to be simply another occult technique and was woefully and fatally ignorant of what and Who he was messing with.

Act 8:18-23  And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money,  (19)  saying, “Give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Holy Spirit…”

Peter rebuked Simon for treating the Holy Spirit as a commodity. Simon regarded the Holy Spirit as another occult sacred space the way occultist treat talismans, runes, and other similar objects. Peter urged Simon to repent.

Act 8:18-23 …(20)  But Peter said to him, “Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money!  (21)  You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of God.  (22)  Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.  (23)  For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity.”

Simon’s response was one typical of Gnostic and Hermetic responses. Simon failed to do his own repentance but called on Peter to do it for him, assuming that Peter was some enlightened elitists who could carry him. Simon would go on to poison the early Church with his brand of Gnosticism

Act 8:24  Then Simon answered and said, “Pray to the Lord for me, that none of the things which you have spoken may come upon me.”

Second Th 2:9 and Rev 13:1-15 relate specifically to a coming one world leader commonly called the Antichrist. There are many Antichrists who operate in occult power(Mat 24:24; 1 John 2:18), but one special case of this emerges in the end times as a global dictator who operates in occult power.

2 Th 2:7-12  For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way.  (8)  And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.  (9)The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders,  (10)  and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.  (11)  And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie,  (12)  that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Rev 13:1-15 documents the rise of the Antichrist and the false Prophet. We see clearly in verses 12-13 that these work great miracles to deceive the people.

Rev 13:11-13  Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon.  (12)  And he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.  (13)He performs great signs, so that he even makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men.

We see one more instance of occult power in Revelation in the form of frog like demons who perform signs to draw the armies of the world to Armageddon

Rev 16:12-14  Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared.  (13)  And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.  (14)  For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.
